Museum of Fine Arts Butte Building 55,000 Square Feet For Sale For $500,000
Non-profit organizations struggle to exist even in times when the economy is flourishing. During this time when the country is experiencing a recession, a large number of non-profit organizations are downsizing and reorganizing in order to continue to offer services to their communities. The Butte Silver Bow Arts Foundation (BSBAF) is one of the nation’s non-profit organizations that is struggling to survive this recession. With the rise of heating and electrical costs and the struggle that the BSBAF is experiencing because of operational costs of the MoFAB building, the BSBAF has decided to put the MoFAB building up for sale.
We would like to thank the many members of the community and local businesses that helped the BSBAF to try and save the MoFAB (for a list of the major donors who gave to our fundraising efforts please see the support page at http://www.bsbarts.org). Due to the unfortunate circumstances, the BSBAF does not believe we could sustain another winter in the MoFAB building. Therefore, we will put the MoFAB building on the market and move our operations into the Charles W. Clark Chateau Museum at 321 W. Broadway by the end of the summer 2010.
MoFAB (the old YMCA) is located at 405 West Park Street, Butte, Montana in the old historic YMCA building. The MoFAB is centrally located in Uptown Butte’s National Historic Landmark District, the old “Y” was built in 1917, once housed national and international guests, and operated a community-wide YMCA co-educational facility. Butte’s Park and Broadway Street vicinity entertained its residents with many prominent theaters, exquisite music halls, famous artists, and literary geniuses. The YMCA building’s significant mark on the local community has left its indelible impression as a place for all to enjoy. We hope that the future of the MoFAB building will still allow for members of the community to enjoy the building and its history.
The BSBAF will continue to seek funding to promote its arts educational programs, the Artist-in-Residence programs, Arts Immersion Summer Programs, and a variety of arts, cultural, heritage, and recreational opportunities. The Butte Silver Bow Arts Center will move to the Charles W. Clark Chateau Museum at 321 W. Broadway Street, Butte, Montana. The Butte Silver Bow Arts Foundation formed the “Arts Center” to serve the needs and interests of the art community in Butte and Southwest Montana. The Arts Center offers classes in fine arts, performing arts, literary arts, and music. It also offers activities and events that promote artistic and cultural development in the local art community and Southwest Montana.
